James Gallahue Obituary

James Smith Gallahue, passed away on December 3, 2018 at the age of 82.  He was a son, father, husband, and friend.  His career spanned 50 years, beginning at UNIVAC and ending at Ingalls Shipbuilding.  He was passionate about history and a lifelong Minnesota Vikings fan.  He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Pascagoula Pride, and the Maritime History Museum.

Those who grew up in his household knew that

·         Haste makes waste

·         Patience is a virtue

·         GPI does not exist

·         Deal in facts

·         There is no free ride

·         Work is valued

·         He is always depends

·         A good father lets his children make mistakes but never holds those mistakes against them

Those who went to church with him knew

·         He would greet parishioners with a smile or a witty saying

·         He would always be in the back of the church

·         He always had a cough drop

James was a thoughtful person who quietly served others and was incredibly proud of his country:

·         He went each week to Little Sisters of the Poor to visit the sick and dying who had little or no family

·         He would buy flowers for someone just because

·         He was a WWII history buff who would talk for hours about it

·         He read about WWII daily, no time for fiction, just the facts

·         He wished he could have served, but unfortunately his body would not allow

James’ greatest sources of pride were his family and his small-town American roots:

·         He loved his wife and took care of her – aka #1

·         He loved his children

·         He did the best he could

·         He was proud to be from Darwin, MN – home of the world’s largest twine ball

·         He loved veterans and was a patriot

·         He was a realist

·         He was funny and always wore cowboy boots

He is preceded in death by his parents, Lucian and Isabell Gallahue and his beloved sister Marion.  He is survived by his wife, Mary Catherine, his brother Patrick, daughters Martha and Kate and son Blaise.  He will be remembered as Grandpa Jim to his eight grandchildren: Cody, Elizabeth, John Francis, Patricia, Isabell, Lucian, Brett and Cameron.

A funeral service will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pascagoula, Mississippi, on Monday, December 10, 2018.  Visitation from 10 a.m. to noon followed by a memorial Mass and reception at their family home.

Memorials can be made to the Charles Thompson (Mr. Charley) Scholarship Fund at Resurrection Elementary School.
