Mary Hartman Obituary

Mary Louise Farragut Hartman, age 87, passed away Friday, January 3, 2020 in Mobile, AL.  She was born on July 24, 1932 in Moss Point, MS. to the late George and Dana Mae (Campbell) Farragut.

Mary graduated from Moss Point High School in 1950.  During her high school years she played the clarinet in the MPHS Band.  She also enjoyed playing the piano boogie woogie blues style.  In her younger adult years she loved to bowl and play bridge with close friends.  As her children were growing up you would always see her on the sidelines at the baseball fields watching her sons play.  Her life was centered around doing activities with family and friends.  She was a dedicated wife and mother and loved her family dearly.  She especially treasured her “grandma” role as Me-Maw; and loved and adored all her grandchildren.  She spent a lot of time at the soccer fields watching and cheering her grandchildren. Mary made friends everywhere she went and was well-known for her strong will, quick wit, and outgoing sense of humor.

Mary was employed at the Jackson County Courthouse (1955-1982) as bookkeeper and later promoted to financial comptroller for the County.  After leaving the courthouse, Mary went to work at Singing River Hospital (1982-1995) in the accounting department.  She officially retired from Singing River Hospital after 40 years being employed in the State System between the Jackson County Courthouse and Singing River Hospital.  She loved her jobs and made many lifelong friends.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband William Lamar “Bill” Hartman, who passed in 2014; parents George and Dana Mae Farragut; and brothers Oscar Lloyd Farragut and Robert “Rocky” Farragut.  She is survived by children, William “Lamar” (Christine) Hartman, Nashville, TN., Dana (Greg) Burleson, Mobile, AL., and Robert “Rocky” (Lass) Hartman, Pascagoula, Ms.; grandchildren, Sacha Lee Hartman, Robert “Bo” Hartman, Patrick Nicholas Hartman, Iris Vivian Hartman, William Payton Hartman, Nicholas Leontin Hartman and Alina Christine Hartman; and 7 great grandchildren Lucy, Macy, Amylia, Ally, Asher, Knox and Hayden; and two special sister-in-laws, Judy Farragut Ord, Mobile, AL. and Joyce Farragut, Pigeon Forge, TN.

Family and friends are invited to attend visitation, a celebration of her life, on Thursday, January 9 at 11:00am at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula followed by a funeral service at 12:00pm in the chapel.  A private interment will follow at Machpelah Cemetery.

The family would like to express their appreciation and gratitude, to her caregivers Deloris Dennis and Francine Floyd of Mobile, AL for their loving care and dedication to Mrs. Hartman during her last years.  The family would also like to thank Saads Healthcare Hospice Services of Mobile, AL for their care and guidance during this time.

Mary will be dearly missed and forever in our hearts.  In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be sent to the Alzheimer Association.
