Ruth Marie (Gaffney) Northrop

Thursday night, January 10, 2019, for many a normal evening, but for the Northrop family it was the day they lost the matriarch of their family, Ruth Marie Northrop. In that moment , Toddy and Ruth were once again together.

Ruth was born August 22, 1939 in Pascagoula to John and Vivian Gaffney. She was co-owner and founder of Northrop Electric which was founded in 1975.  Mrs. Ruth a shrewd business woman, had charm and when needed, grit and tenacity. She and her husband Dan, together made a great team until his death in July of 2017 after 59 years of marriage. She also worked at Ingalls Shipbuilding and owned and operated Toddy’s Sandwich Shop.  She was a member of Our Lady of Victories Catholic Church, Ladies Aux-BPOE 1120 and Past Queen.  Ruth enjoyed trips to the casinos, card games with friends, traveling, bowling, Mardi Gras, cooking for family gatherings and Sunday dessert night.

In addition to her parents and “Big Dan” she was preceded in death by her mother-in-law, Shirley Northrop.

She is survived by three sons, Dan F. Northrop Jr. (Diane), Todd Northrop, and Jack Northrop (Priscilla); grandchildren, Jacob , Landan, and Hannah Northrop; step-grandchildren, Angie Minter and Melanie Bryant (Stephen); step-great-grandchildren, Gaines and Emerson Bryant; brother, John Gaffney (Carolyn); aunt, Margie Rouse -Syzmonick; sisters-in-law, Ellen Cole (Ray) and Gail Meisner (Arlon); her beloved furry friend and companion, GiGi Marie Northrop, many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Serving as pallbearers will be employees of Northrop Electric, Craig Nelson, Jeff Broussard, Lee Mathaler, Chris Flowers, Erik Barthol, and Michael Schoeder.  In leiu of flowers the family suggests donations to the St Jude Foundation.

Visitation will be Tuesday, January 15, 2019 at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula, MS from 12 – 2 pm. The Funeral Service will follow at 2pm in the Chapel with Father Tony Arguellas officiating. Interment will conclude at Machpelah Cemetery.
