Carla Eva Carlson Mhoon, 72, passed away peacefully surrounded by family after an extended illness on April 13, 2021. She was born Jan. 31, 1949 to the late Carl & Lillian Carlson of Pascagoula. She graduated Pascagoula High School in 1967 & attended University of Southern Mississippi to pursue a career in Education. During college, she met & wed John Mhoon on October 31, 1970. She taught at Eastlawn Elementary for over 20 years where she loved all her students & made many lifelong friendships. In 2005, she retired to enjoy her favorite job of Nana. She was the Nana taxi & homework helper in the afternoons. She had a love for books & was an avid reader. She loved cooking & family gatherings. She always had a smile on her face & never met a stranger. She was genuine & kind to all. She had a special place in her heart for her fur babies – the late Buddy, Bart & Lola and her current fur baby - Bassett Hound Punky - who just celebrated her 14th birthday. Carla was a long time member of First Presbyterian Church in Pascagoula.
Carla is preceded in death by her parents – Carl & Lillian Carlson, her sister – Shirley Carlson Fields, her husband – John Colton Mhoon, & her daughter – Stacey Michelle Mhoon Nix.
Carla is survived by her daughter – Amanda (Matt) Blonde, three grandchildren – Hunter Blades, Riley Blades, Emma Blonde; Sister in law – Linda (Paul) Tennyson of Maryville TN, nieces & nephews – Lara Larsen Bourgeois, Justin (Genesis) Larsen & Chip (Colleen) Larsen – all of Pascagoula, Angela (Richard) Block, Paula Tennyson, Elizabeth (Jeff) Seiber, Kathy (Robert) Berndsen, Michael Mhoon, Christopher (Maribeth) Mace, Pamela (Gary) Murray, Cynthia Motta, Jenny Ann & many other loved family & friends.
Visitation will be Sunday, April 18, 2021, 5:00-7:00pm, at O'Bryant-O'Keefe Funeral Home in Pascagoula. Funeral Service will be Monday, April 19, 2021, 11:00am, at First Presbyterian Church in Pascagoula.
