Herbert Krebs Obituary

Herbert Aristede Krebs, died on Friday, November 19, 2021 at age 94 and 8 months.  He was born March 16, 1927 in Pascagoula, MS to his parents Sophie Lucille Macek Krebs and William Guy Krebs, Sr.  Herbert was a lifelong resident of Pascagoula.  He was first and foremost a much-loved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great grandfather.

Herbert was a 7th Generation descendant of Hugo Ernestus Krebs and Marie Simon de La Pointe, who were a founding family in 1757 of what is now Pascagoula. He graduated from Our Lady of Victories Catholic School.  Herbert was a World War II veteran, serving as a Sergeant with the U.S. Third Army in Austria and Italy.  After honorable discharge he returned home and was a successful carpenter and business owner.  During his 40 years in the carpentry business, Herbert constructed many homes, schools, businesses, and municipal buildings in Mississippi and Alabama.  He was in partners with Freddie O’Brian in the 1960’s as O’Brian and Krebs, operating as subcontractors.  Herbert started his own company, Krebs Homes Inc., in 1972 to focus on building custom homes.  He was a member of the Homebuilders Association.  He also helped a few people start small businesses.  He was known in the community as a fair and honest businessman.

Hebert was also an avid sportsman; enjoying hunting, fishing, playing baseball, basketball and bowling.  Herbert’s family inherited his life interests and hobbies.  His interest in fishing and hunting is carried on by his daughter, Donna; his interest in baseball is carried on by his son, Michael and carpentry by his grandson Eric.  His young great-granddaughter, Tamsin, wants to be a builder, like her Great PaPa (and a scientist).  Herbert was known for his dry sense of humor and could bring a smile to most anyone. Even up to the end he was making the nurses laugh and smile.  He enjoyed the simple things of life, his home and his family. His moto in life was “keep it simple”.

Herbert and his wife, Sue, were charter parishioners of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and friend to Father Patrick Quinn.  Father Quinn would visit Herbert and Sue’s home quite often.  Herbert was charitable of heart, action and monetary donations during his lifetime.  He especially liked to donate to Sacred Heart Church, Resurrection Catholic School, Saltillo Mission in Mexico and St. Jude’s to name a few.  During his younger days, you could find Herbert doing work at Sacred Heart on the church, school, rectory or any other project one of the priests would need.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Billie Sue Krebs (Brown), his parents, all his siblings; four brothers: William Guy Krebs, Jr.; Vincent Krebs, Alfred “Ebb” Krebs, Leon David “LD” Krebs and three sisters; Verna Walker Dowell, Rosemary Bradley, Carol Cowan.

He is survived by his daughter, Donna Maria Christensen Strich (Ron), his son, Michael Kevin Krebs (Amber); his grandson, Eric Alan Christensen (Autumn); and great-granddaughter, Tamsin Mae Christensen
