Hila M. Hines, 96, of LaVale, passed away Saturday, January 25, 2020, at Sincerely Yours Personal Care Home. in LaVale, MD –
Born in May 14,1923, in Lafayette, IN, Mrs. Hines was the daughter of the late Albert and Lillian (Presnell) Maurer. Hila was also preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Frank E. Hines; an infant son in 1946, Gerald E. Hines; two brothers: William Maurer and Jack Maurer, and a special friend, John Smith.
Mrs. Hines graduated from Frostburg State College in 1960, and taught at Fort Hill High School and Washington Middle School before moving to Rome, Georgia, in 1968. She earned her Masters' Degree from West Georgia College and worked as a reading supervisor for the Floyd County Public Schools.
The Hines' travelled extensively for Celanese Corp during the 1970s and 1980s, which included a three-year term in Celaya, Guanajuato, Mexico, where a new fibers plant was being built at Salamanca.
The Hines' settled in Pascagoula, Mississippi, until Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast in 2005. After the passing of her husband, Hila returned to LaVale to be near family. Mrs. Hines attended Trinity Assembly of God, Midlothian, MD.
Hila is survived by her daughter: Stephanie Willetts and husband, Bud, LaVale, MD; five grandchildren: Jason Willetts and wife, Danielle, LaVale, MD; Alison Herschler, Morgantown, WV; Adam Willetts and wife, Shama, LaVale, MD; Nathan Willetts and wife, Sarah, Missoula, Montana, and Sarah Willetts, LaVale, MD. She is survived by eleven great-children; her sister: Patty A. Cunningham and husband, George, Lafayette, Indiana; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Interment will be in the Biloxi National Cemetery, at 1:30pm on Monday February 3, 2020
