Lula Price Obituary

Lula Mae Guillotte was born June 23, 1932 to the late Napolean Joseph and Sallie Emily Havens Guillotte. Her maternal grandparents were the late Judge Henry C. and Mary Franklin Cain Havens. Her paternal grandparents were the late Jules and Zoa Quave Guillotte. A visitation will be Thursday, April 1, at O’Bryant O’Keefe Funeral Home in Gautier from 1:00-2:00 pm, followed by a graveside service at Pinecrest Cemetery in Gautier.

Lou graduated in the Pascagoula High School Class of 1950. She lettered in basketball and track all four years of high school and was a member of the Beta Club, Ensemble, Choir and served as the Hi-Jinx Queen.

Lou attended Perkinston Junior College, enjoying sports and music participation. She was the first girl from Jackson County to receive a basketball scholarship. Lou then went on to one year at the University of Southern Mississippi before heading to Mississippi State University to complete her BS degree in Elementary and Secondary Education. She also earned a Master of Education years later.

Lou began a lifetime career as an educator in Wiggins, MS, while also coaching 8th grade girls basketball. During her 40 plus years in education, she taught in Starkville, Valdosta, GA, Fort Meyers, FL, and Gautier.  She was so excited and honored to come home to teach at Gautier Elementary where she had attended as a child.  During her career she was a member of several educational organizations including the MEA and NEA as well as the Singing River Power and Sail Squadron.

She is preceded in death by Dr. Andrew John Bond, Sr, her husband of thirty years, second husband, Grayson A. Price; three siblings, Robert (Bob) Guillotte, Elizabeth (Libby) Bridges Love, Theresa Hague, and grandson Andrew John Bond III.

She is survived by her children, Andrea Bond Booker (Mel), Andrew John Bond Jr. (Maribeth), Timothy Bond Sr. and 14 grandchildren.

Lou’s career as a teacher meant so much to her. She kept in touch with many of her former students over the years. She loved to travel. A summer spent in Australia and New Zealand was a lifelong dream fulfilled. She loved her Lord, her family and her country and was a very patriotic person who appreciated all the freedoms afforded by this great country. Her life was an example of how life can be lived fully with dignity, good deeds, much laughter and the tenacity to make one’s dreams come true.

Lou is the last charter member of First United Methodist Church of Gautier, formed in her parent’s home in 1950. She worked on many committees and also taught and served as a mentor to many women in the church.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 1, 2021 from 1-2pm at Gautier O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home, followed by graveside service at Pinecrest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gautier First United Methodist Church or the charitable organization of your choice. Condolences may be expressed online at www.obryantokeefe.com.
