Robert Charles Purdy, Sr. (Butch), age 82, passed away peacefully at home in Pascagoula on May 14, 2022 after a long courageous battle with Parkinson’s Disease. He was born on January 15, 1940 to Gerald Robert Purdy and Ruth Gautier Purdy in Pascagoula, Ms.
After graduating from Pascagoula High School, Class of 1958, he would begin working at Ingalls Shipbuilding and then go on to work and semi-retire from URS Corporation. He continued working with various other engineering companies and would finally retire with close to 50 years of work experience ranging from Pipe draftsman to Senior Pipe designer.
He was a member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Pascagoula where he served on the church board and would later help design the new church in Ocean Springs, Crossroads Church of the Nazarene.
Robert had a love for sports. He enjoyed playing multiple sports and nothing made him happier than being able to watch his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren participate in what they loved. He also had a passion for owning sports cars and a talent for building exotic kit cars. He took great pride in the workmanship of each one he built. Many of which he won awards for in car shows along the gulf coast.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sister, Doris Witchen and brother, Jerry Purdy.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jacquelene Wimberly Purdy (Jackie); two sons and one daughter; Chuck Purdy (Marla) of Hurley; Doug Purdy (Dina) of Fulshear, Tx; Lisa Morgan ( Kevin) Mobile, Al; 7 grandchildren, Chad Purdy (Blair), Pascagoula; Nick Purdy (Alyssa), Pascagoula; Natalie Baker (Josh), Mobile, Al; Todd Purdy, Fulshear, Tx; Michael Purdy, Fulshear, Tx; Coy Morgan (Mattie), Mobile, Al; Kayla Byrne (Jett), Mobile,Al; 7 great grandchildren, Blaze Baker, Caroline and Camille Purdy, Ann Marie and Abe Purdy, Luke and Matthew Morgan; 2 siblings, Shirley Westphal and Beverly Walker. Numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Pallbearers will be Chad Purdy, Nick Purdy, Coy Morgan, Jett Byrne, Doug Adams and Cliff Cooley.The family would like to thank caregiver, Baileigh Burke, for all her help in caring for our dad and to the Hospice of Light team for taking care of and making him comfortable this last year. And a very, very special thank you to Mary Dardar, his primary caregiver, for always going above and beyond and never complaining and letting us know it would always be ok and it would work out and it did. Thank each of you for loving our dad.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 20, 2022, from 11:30 AM until 1:30PM at O’Bryant-O’Keefe Funeral Home with funeral to follow in the chapel at 1:30 PM with Rev. Nick Peebles officiating. Entombment will follow at Jackson County Memorial Park in Pascagoula. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of him to his church, Crossroads Church of Nazarene, 6150 Firestone Street, Ocean Springs, MS 39564. You may send condolences to his family or share a memory on the Tribute Wall.
Funeral Service will be livestream on the funeral home's facebook page beginning when the service starts around 1:30pm for those unable to attend.
